Could the classic lineup be preparing something special for the record that started it all? Earlier today, Kula Shaker sparked excitement across social media by dropping a mysterious, wordless teaser video that points heavily toward 30th-anniversary celebrations for their landmark debut album, K.
The Teaser: Swirling Organs and Familiar Imagery
Posted without a caption or formal statement across Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter), the short clip instantly caught the attention of long-time fans. The video features a wave of psychedelic visuals, flashing fragments of iconic artwork, and studio footage strongly reminiscent of the original 1996 album sessions.
30 Years of a Britpop Phenomenon
First released in September 1996, K arrived like a thunderbolt during the height of the UK alternative boom. Spawning massive hit singles including “Tattva”, “Hey Dude”, and “Govinda”, the record entered the UK Albums Chart directly at Number 1 and became one of the fastest-selling debut albums in British music history.
With original keyboard wizard Jay Darlington now firmly back in the fold alongside Crispian Mills, Alonza Bevan, and Paul Winter-Hart, the band is in peak creative and live form—making the timing for a retrospective milestone ideal.
What Could It Mean?
While the band has yet to release solid details, fans are obviously already speculating on several possibilities:
- A 30th Anniversary Tour: Could the original four-piece embark on a dedicated tour playing K in its entirety?
- Deluxe Boxset Reissue: A remastered vinyl and multi-disc collection featuring unreleased demos, live BBC sessions, and vault recordings from 1995–1996.
- Or Something Else Entirely?: I can't wait to find out. Shut Up And Take My Money, comes to mind.
